Hello Neighbors & Friends, Deering Center Neighborhood Cleanup is this Saturday April 25th from 10am to noon. Join us and help lend a hand in taking care of the neighborhood. Meetup at Pat’s Meat Mart at 10am, and BIG thanks to neighborhood businesses. Welcome Home Real Estate is providing gift bags, water, trash bags and gloves. Pat’s, Rambler Cafe, Noble Pizzeria & BBQ, The Honey Exchange, Le’Cha Cafe, Katharine Watson Open Studio and The Quality Shop all donated gifts that will be raffled off to volunteers. It takes a village! Participants & Volunteers Needed for Deering Center’s Memorial Day Procession & Commemoration on Monday May 25th at 2pm. Children ages 5 - 10 participate in the Procession and play an active role in the Commemoration in Evergreen Cemetery. The children all wear white and carry flowers. At the cemetery they lay their flowers on the graves of two veterans who lost their lives in Vietnam. Also, volunteers are needed at closed street intersections. We’re excited to share there is now a Jane’s Walk right here in the neighborhood. Saturday May 2nd from 12 - 1pm. The walk will start at the corner of Stevens and Ludlow and end at Evergreen Cemetery. It will explore the evolution of what was formerly known as Stevens Plains, discussing historic public gathering places, public transportation, buildings, and landscapes. Yards & Gardens Needed for Deering Center’s Garden Ramble on Sunday June 7th 12 - 4pm. If you live in the area between Forest and Stevens, join up and be part of the fun. The Ramble is a free, wonderful way to share your outdoor space with neighbors and new friends. 80’s Dance Night! to Benefit Portland’s Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP). A fun way to support an important cause. At HopeGateWay Church at 515 Woodford St this Friday April 24th from 8 - 10:30pm, $10 suggested donation, it will be a chem/alcohol free welcoming space. Looking for 2 New Board Members for DCNA. We have a great crew and would love to add a couple more! Especially people with digital communication skills and experience. DCNA’s Neighborhood Business Collective is having their bi-monthly get together at Rambler Cafe on Monday May 11th from 5 - 6pm. An opportunity for neighborhood business owners to gather, share news & ideas, and explore other ways to work together and support each other. All Deering Center businesses are welcome! Deering Center Community Church will be repairing the bell tower in May with plans to celebrate the restoration in July! Also, they will be changing their name to The Light in coming months, seeing it as a way to harmonize with the neighborhood and echo with the first light that dawns in Maine and the resurgam hope and life of our beautiful city. Lastly, join us at the upcoming DCNA monthly meeting with special guest Johanna Rozzi, the Community Services Coordinator from Portland Police.
