2024 Deering Center Memorial Day Procession & Commemoration
Monday May 27th @ 2pm
RAIN OR SHINE (only cancelled if thunder & lightning)
Begins at 2pm on Stevens Avenue in front of Longfellow School. The Procession walks up along Stevens Avenue to the Evergreen Cemetery green in front of Wilde Memorial Chapel, where the Commemoration will be held.
Join Deering Center and the City of Portland in honoring and remembering those who sacrificed their lives while on active duty in military service.

Commemoration (in the cemetery at the tent)
1. VFW post the colors
2. State Representative Sam Zager will recite the names of the 7 dead
3. Children walk through the tent, walk across the field to lay flowers on 2 graves (Tom Dyrberg will be singing "Where have all the flowers gone?")
4. US Navy Commander Anthony LaVopa will talk about Maine servicemen killed in action and the Summit Project
5. Herb Adams will read a poem excerpt
6. Tom Dyhrberg will sing "Danny Boy"
7. Mayor Mark Dion will give the Commemoration
8. Bagpipers play "Amazing Grace
9. CDR LaVopa will lay the wreath
10. Moment of Silence
11. Gun Salute
12. Taps
13. Retire the Colors
